Caribbean Joins International Pairs Golfing Family International Pairs, the world’s largest and fastest-growing two-person amateur golf competition, recently welcomed the Caribbean to the fold at the World Finals staged at The Duke’s, St Andrews in Scotland. Zorol Barthley, owner and CEO of Golf Experience Caribbean, attended the sporting event held between 34 teams, representing 28 countries. The Caribbean and Central America will get its own taste of this excitement next year, when master license holder Golf Experience Caribbean hosts its inaugural international pairs events for this region. Barthley, no stranger to the sporting world, said, “I am excited to unveil this competition in the Caribbean in 2009. We will begin with qualifiers at golf clubs throughout the Caribbean, where winners will have the chance to be crowned national champions, whilst also earning the right to represent their island at the Caribbean Finals; a two-day affair in an island to be selected.” He continued, “The Caribbean Finals winners will have the chance to represent the Caribbean at the 2009 World Finals at Carnoustie, Scotland in October 2009. International Pairs is an international tournament run nationally, and participants will only be required to pay entrance fees at their local clubs. Thereafter, winners progressing to Caribbean and World Finals will do so at the expense of Golf Experience Caribbean.” Meanwhile, Ross Honey, chairman and founder of International Pairs, said: “It is tremendous that someone of Zorol’s standing in the region has joined International Pairs. During our license holders meetings in Scotland, we were amazed at his international connections, which can only benefit his operations.” Honey added, “These are very exciting times, and Zorol can only help the competition go from strength to strength. Golf in the Caribbean is growing rapidly, and his vision for his business dovetails nicely into our overall vision for International Pairs on a national and international scale.” International Pairs is the largest amateur golf tournament of its type, having been conceived by Honey on 1998. More than 30 countries have been represented by their national champions since the inaugural World Final in 2004, and the title of International Pairs World Champions has been held by pairs from three different continents. The betterball stableford format gives all players an equal chance, and is ideal for the amateur golfer. All events are highly competitive, but the sportsmanship is second to none. END ![]() |
