Husband and wife team Danny and Alice Scott were a last-minute entry into the ING/International Pairs World Qualifier at the 18th Annual ING Spring Conference in Atlantic City.

 

They made changes in their travel plans so they could join golf industry peers and media in the annual networking and educational gathering conducted by the International Network of Golf.

But now Danny and Alice will have to change their plans again after they combined to score an impressive 47 Stableford points in the best-ball format to blow away the competition at the historic Atlantic City Country Club in New Jersey.

 

The Scotts beat their closest challengers Tom Landers and Sean Fitzsimmons by five points and they will now head to Scotland on September 21-23 to represent the USA and the ING in the fifth International Pairs World Finals in St Andrews - the Home of Golf.

"We are delighted to once again be working with the ING," said Ross Honey, founder and chairman of International Pairs, who are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year.

"We think the Scotts will be tremendous representatives of the United States, and I know they will have a terrific week.”

Danny and Alice, owners of Butthead Covers, Inc. in Gilbert, Arizona, have been affiliated with the ING for two years.

This was their first attempt at qualifying for the International Pairs world finals and they will now join competitors from around 30 countries at the Duke's, St Andrews, in battling for the right to be crowned International Pairs World Champions for 2008.

“We really were shocked that we did so well,” said Alice, a 22-handicapper who shot 88 on her own ball.

“It was a tough day with all the wind on a challenging golf course but Danny, who plays off seven, and I played well as a team and I guess that's what did it for us.”
