Interest in the world’s largest competition for club golfers has never been greater after it was revealed that the 2007 International Pairs World Final will be broadcast to a record global audience of more than 100 million households.
Sky Sports Television has been loyal supporters of the tournament providing annual coverage of the world for the last three years, and they will again be present to capture every crucial shot in the 36-hole Stableford event. And they will be joined at Fairmont St Andrews this year by camera crews from three golf television networks from America and television crews from Canada and Asia to broadcast the drama as it unfolds on the fairways. Ross Honey, founder and managing director of International Pairs, said: “It has always been our aim for the International Pairs competition to be enjoyed by as many people as possible across the world. “Television coverage plays a huge role in that and it is fantastic that a record number of people will be able to see this year’s event thanks to the presence of the international camera crews this year. “Interest in the competition continues to grow with every year and the coverage that will be broadcast all over the world will help ensure the continued long-term success of the tournament.” ‘The Golf Show’ is broadcast to 14 million homes across America, ‘The Golfpac Travel and Golf TV Show’ reaches 6.4 million homes in Florida while ‘The Golf TV Show’ on Golf Network reaches one million households in upstate New York. And when the viewing figures for Asia, Canada and the United Kingdom are added, it is easy to see why Honey is so excited about the future of International Pairs - whose main sponsors are VisitScotland. Randy Tallinger, presenter of ‘The Golf Show’ said: “It was an easy decision to make when we spoke to Ross and he told us all about International Pairs. “The idea of giving everyday golfers from all sorts of different nationalities the chance to meet each other and play at a world final is just terrific. “I can’t wait for the competition to start and I can think of no better place to stage such an event than at the Home of Golf itself.” Twenty nine pairs from 22 different countries will battle it on Fairmont St Andrews’ two challenging courses - the Torrance and the Devlin - for the chance to succeed the Philippines and be crowned the fourth International Pairs world champions. International Pairs has been backed by VisitScotland for the last five years – and the national Scottish tourist body has committed to be the tournament’s main sponsor until at least next year. |
